| Anyone know the difference between
i7 860 2,8Ghz and i7 930 2,8 ghz?
Well its different socket and motherboard, RAM and all that but i mean the CPU, whats the difference?
Well it would be good if u bought the 930, then u can upgrade to another CUP with the same socket.

Well if you are playing games or day to day tasks there isn't much difference between the 2 CPU's. But when you start rendering (making) videos or 3D modelling (game making) its almost twice as better. The Core i9 is new and probably costs a shit load, so no point in buying one. Core i7 is something I have and is still more then enough for me. I don't exactly make videos or games so I doubt anyone else would need the higher end CPU that would probably cost 700$+.

![i7 and i7 Empty](https://2img.net/i/empty.gif) | Subject: Re: i7 and i7 Tue Mar 30, 2010 7:05 pm
| The difference between a i7 860 and a 920 or 930 whatsoever is the socket and front side busses and all that shit.. i don't want to get in too much details.. Now the reason why the Socket 1156 (i3,5,7s) are cheap is because they got less amount pins on the processor itself but thats not the only thing. Processors have their prices on Cores threads and clock speed. Ofcourse you could go with a core 2 quad or a core 2 duo and Overcloack it and get the same performance but you might as well get a better cooler but thats extra cash but also saving you money from buying a i5 or a i7. As i said before the biggest difference between 860 and 920 is the socket which 860 got the socket 1156 for the i3 i5 and i7 while the 920 and the next generations have the socket 1366 which is the latest processor socket on the market. Now those numbers on the socket types stays for how many pins the actually got so the 860 and other i5s got 1156 pins and the 920 and after got 1366 pins. Now there is no difference between the cores or threads though both 860 and 920 got 4 cores and 8 threads which is 2 threads for each core with Hyper-Threading technology making them run a lot faster than AMD processors with socket AM3 out there. I hope this information have helped you and ask me if there is something you need help with. | |

Theres nothing called "i9" yet. They released the Six core 12 thread codenamed Gulftown the i7 980X Extreme CPU which is the newest technology on the socket 1366 based motherboards so your older 1366 X58 chipset motherbords will support it but its not called a i9 yet. They will release the i9 family soon i think but the newest six core processor is the i7 980X EXTREME.

Yeah Pretender the Core 2 Quad Q6600 which is stock 2.66 GHz is more than enough for games today. It goes crazy if you overcloak it which means you get lots of more bang for the buck.
